An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

This isn’t simply a law of physics — it’s true in most every aspect of life.

Getting yourself in shape is a hell of a lot more work than staying in shape. It is in that transition space between being “at rest” and “in motion” where the greatest amount of focus and effort is required.

The excess pounds do not simply fall of on demand. Nor is the lean, strong muscle built in a day.

It’s about building that much needed momentum, one ounce at a time. Day after day.

Some might think of this as the bad news but I say it’s the good news. For it removes the draw to be frustrated today.

Today is a day to do the work. To thank the progress. To attend to focus and cultivate awareness.

It is also a chance to hold compassion close to your heart and head. In my experience it is much easier to blame ourselves for what we did “wrong” than recognize and celebrate the many “right” things you do every day.

Ate a bad meal… Overindulged… Missed a training session… Had a bad night’s sleep.

Shit happens.

Contrary to strongly held belief, beating the crap out of yourself emotionally doesn’t actually encourage better results. It just traps you deeper in the negative energy cycle.

Just as the golfer has but one choice — to play the ball where it lays: So must you and I.

Recognize the slip. Thank it for reminding me to sit up straight, and eat better. Or whatever the lesson today is. Then move forward.

In this way you get back into the momentum. Back in the positive flow, gratitude and becoming the best version of ourselves in harmony of motion.

As we make this turn from Winter to Spring, use this time as a check-in and a chance to embrace the season of renewal. Spring forward into more intentional motion.
