Boxes of Tears

Day 7 of My Personal Challenge to Write a Poem Each Day in April
in Honor of National Poetry Month
Boxes holding remnants
Of 84 years of living,
Treasures stolen by the
Hand of death
Four years ago.
Boxes hidden in closets
Away from my fears of
Dusty memories —
Photos, postcards,
Letters and jewelry.
The stories of a life
No longer lived.
One by one I touch
And read and look and
Remember.
Slowly the boxes
Empty
Of all but my
Tears.
