Boxes holding remnants
Of 84 years of living,
Treasures stolen by the
Hand of death
Four years ago.

Boxes hidden in closets
Away from my fears of
Dusty memories —
Photos, postcards,
Letters and jewelry.

The stories of a life
No longer lived.
One by one I touch
And read and look and
Remember.

Slowly the boxes
Empty
Of all but my
Tears.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
