Everyone gets depressed from time-to-time. Whether it’s situational or biological, mindfulness meditation can help you get up out of your slump.

Researchers have found that serotonin levels can be significantly increased through the practice of mindfulness meditation.

Don’t know where to start?

Here are 2 tips on how to start Meditating this year:

Start with 2 minutes a day.

Begin with small steps that you can’t talk yourself out of because you don’t have enough time. Try 2-minute meditations that focus on breathing or relaxing, and get comfortable with the stillness of meditation.

Meditate at the same time every morning or every night.

Committing to the same time can make all the difference when starting a new habit. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, right before you go to sleep, or another time that works best for you (e.g. at work), learn to link a certain time of day with a quick 2-minute meditation. It’ll be much easier for you to do it every day.

While this isn’t a substitute for proper medical assessment and care, it can certainly provide a great way to improve your health, both mentally and physically.
