Are you focusing yet?

If not, it is most likely because you are doing too many things. Even if you are just reading this article, subconsciously you are wrestling with multiple tasks. Focusing is not an easy feat and it requires your full attention, so let me ask you again. Are you focusing yet?

Imagine if focusing were as easy as popping a pill (like in Limitless) and having complete utter control your mind. It is something we all deeply desire, due to the fact we live such complex lives.

By learning to focus you can become more productive, less stressed, be happier, and love more.

Simplify

Part of focusing is simplifying. To simplify, you do not need to live in a tiny home, or only have less than 100 possessions. In reality, you don’t have to go to such extremes to simplify.

Simplifying begins in your mind. By clarifying your thoughts, you can work towards organizing and clearing your head.

Start by clearing out your head of all the waste and negativity. If you want to focus, you can’t be bogged down by negative thoughts.

By doing this, we can put our most important thoughts first and then choose to use those thoughts to help us focus on one single thing.

Focusing on a single item is imperative. We are not able to multitask and give our full attention to numerous things.

For this reason, we have to arm ourselves with our thoughts and prepare to tackle a single task at a time.

Get The Ball Rolling

Once you simplify and clarify, you will want to start getting the ball rolling to begin focusing. You have to start somewhere, so make the starting point one you won’t dread.

When starting a particular task, consider doing a ‘warm up.’

What I mean is, start slow and ease your way into tasks. When you do this, it isn’t as difficult to get started.

Once you get started, you gradually pick up momentum and before you know it — you’re ‘in the zone!’

This state of ‘in the zone’ refers to the moments you are captivated by the ability to focus. It’s when you exert extraordinarily effort to gain monumental results.

You are not able to get to this state of focus without simplifying your thoughts and getting the ball rolling.

Set Yourself Up For Success

When you are ‘in the zone,’ you want to stay there for as long as humanly possible. For this reason, do everything in your power to minimize distractions.

Some things you can do are silence your phone, have water nearby, go to the bathroom before (crucial), get comfortable, and make sure you have everything you need to accomplish the task at hand.

Distractions aren’t always avoidable, but no matter what — do your best to limit them.

Another way you can position yourself for success is to plan on being productive during times when you are able to be. If the only time you can be productive is before your kids wake up and after they go to bed, then plan for that.

If it is hard to get away, try putting in headphones and listening to relaxing instrumental music when you can. By blocking out everything around you, hopefully, you can get ‘in the zone’.

Commit To Committing

Mental strength is something you can develop by being self-aware. If you know every time you try to focus you want to check social media, then you need to work towards overcoming that habit.

One thing everyone needs to focus on is when your concentration is broken, getting back to re-focusing.

Focus is bound to be broken throughout the course of a day. We need to be prepared for it and be able to go through our step, and to get back ‘in the zone.’

We can do this by following the steps we have discussed.

Summary

By simplifying, clarifying, getting the ball rolling, getting in the zone, and getting back ‘in the zone’ — you have the tools to become a productivity guru.

The power of focusing can always be amplified by the things we choose to focus on. Choose to focus on positivity and the things that truly matter.

Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer. — Denis Waitley
