Lone Sentinel

Day 26 of My Personal Challenge to Write a Poem Each Day in April
in Honor of National Poetry Month
Lone heron,
Sentinel of the day,
Standing guard in crimson-coral waters,
Until the sun retreats,
Looking for a final catch on an unlucky day,
Hoping for a full belly
To ward off the empty darkness,
Lone sentinel,
The first to greet the night.
