Humankind’s relationship with dogs is a long and multi-faceted one. From temple guards to faithful companions, they have been an integral part of our lives for millennia. This hasn’t changed and they have perhaps play an even more important role with the advancement of technologies.

Service and assistance dogs have become increasingly important in our modern society. These dogs help in ways no machine can — the provide companionship, perform tasks, alert to impending medical emergencies… the list goes on and on.

The organization Canine Assistants works to pair people and even institutions with these dogs to help people live full, independent lives. It’s trained more than 1,000 service dogs who have transformed the lives of children and adults in need. Canine Assistants breeds, trains, and places service dogs with people who have physical disabilities, seizure disorders, and other needs. Founded by Jennifer Arnold in 1991, Canine Assistants is located near Atlanta, Georgia.

Recipients adopt their dogs; they do not pay for them. Instead, Canine Assistants covers the $20,000 lifelong costs of training, food, and medical care for each dog through sponsorships.
