Our minds are highly complex organic computers, full of information that we might not even know is in there. Dreaming is an amazing way for our brains to work out ideas, daily stresses or just run wild.

Keeping a dream journal can help give you some really great insight into what’s going on in your waking life that you may not be paying attention to. A dream journal doesn’t have to be something elaborate — it can be as simple as a notebook. Keep it by your bedside so that you can record your dreams in as much detail as possible — these elusive thoughts tend to become more so as soon as you step out of bed and get going on your day.

To make your journal a useful tool, it would be helpful to write down anything that’s worrying, exciting or otherwise significant in your life. You can do this before you go to bed. Your dreams may have nothing to do with what’s going on while you’re awake, but you may start to see some very obvious patterns when you do it for long enough. It can also help you track your stressors by noting when certain events take place and the dreams that occur during that time period.

If for no other reason, a dream journal can be a great way for you to take a few minutes for yourself each day — time that’s really all your own.
