Many of us like the idea of hosting a dinner party but cooking a meal for a lot of people can be very stressful, especially when you have to take into account the fact that people have different dietary requirements that need to be catered for. It is also hard for a group of people to decide on a dish that they all enjoy eating.

One way around this is to host a bring your own dinner party where everyone brings food that they have prepared themselves. This eliminates the problem of someone being served food that they do not like. If there you have a group of close friends that you would like to have dinner with more often then you should put this idea to them. Here are a few ground rules that you may also like to think about.

So what does BYOD look like in practice?

There are a few rules that make it a lot easier.

1. Take It In Turns To Be The Host

Even though the host will not have any pressure of cooking the meal, they will probably still spend a great deal of time making sure their home is presentable and welcoming for their guests. Taking it in turns means this pressure is shared throughout the group.

2. The Host Provides The Drinks

If the host is able to provide a few bottles of wine then it means that the guests do not have to worry about anything other than bringing their own food.

3. Dress How You Want

You can choose how you want to dress for the bring your own dinner party as it is in the comfort of someones home. If you enjoy getting dressed up for a dinner party then you are free to do so but on the other hand you can also turn up in your pyjamas and no one will care.

5. Try Each Others Food

There may be a dish that you have always wanted to try but you are not sure if you will like it or not. Part of the fun of a bring your own dinner party is the chance to try new things and have a sample of all the dinners that people have brought.
