I’m going to tell you how you can lose body fat by walking! Something we all already do on a day-to-day basis and requires minimal effort!

Now, the first and very important step is to be in a calorie deficit, your body needs to be burning more calories than you are consuming in one day, if you achieve this along with walking you will lose body fat — When you have finished reading this blog, I advise you click on the link below to view my other blog all to do with what a calorie deficit is and how to achieve it, so take a look to fully understand. You can do all the walking in the world; however, you simply won’t lose body fat if you are NOT in a calorie deficit, so this is very important to understand so make sure you check it out!

On average, 10,000 steps per day will burn around 500 calories (this will vary slightly on each person’s height, weight and muscle mass so take it with a pinch of salt). This is a perfect amount to burn when wanting to lose body fat. However, if you struggle to walk 10,000 steps per day, try and at least reach 5,000 steps as you will still lose body fat and burn on average 200/250 calories. Overtime I advise increasing your step count per day.

An obvious downside to walking that many steps per day is its very time consuming, it can take up to 2 hours or so to walk 10,000 steps! However, without even knowing it you probably walk thousands of steps just going about your daily life!

A great way to burn more calories per step is to walk uphill; I often walk on the treadmill at the gym and change the gradient to incline to help me burn more calories per step, this is very effective.

Finally, you will ideally need an electronic watch that will count how many steps you have done per day so you can keep track of your progress. Any electronic watch will do, my preference is an apple watch which I use every day.

If you continue to walk 5,000/10,000 steps per day and you do not overeat, you will start to see very positive results and your body fat percentage will drop.
