INTRODUCTION

Coffee is just brilliant. I wake up every day and religiously have a glass of water, followed by a double espresso, fresh out of my Nespresso machine. It’s how I start every single day and mentally sets me up perfectly for a productive day ahead… but is drinking coffee every morning good or bad for you?

SCIENCE

Let’s get into the science. Coffee is most popular psychoactive drug in the world. When you drink coffee, the caffeine hijacks your brain; there are receptors in your brain called adenosine, these receptors are responsible for making you feel tired. When you drink coffee, the caffeine replaces the adenosine receptors, which is why you feel awake and alert.

BENEFITS

Let’s have a look at the countless benefits of drinking coffee…

Increased energy levels — “Many controlled trials in humans show that coffee improves various aspects of brain function. This includes memory, mood, vigilance, energy levels, reaction times and general cognitive function.”

Helps you burn fat — “studies show that caffeine can specifically increase the burning of fat, by as much as 10% in obese individuals and 29% in lean people.”

Loaded with essential nutrients — By drinking your morning coffee you’re not only getting that sweet (or bitter), fresh roasted taste, but you’re getting riboflavin, pantothenic acid, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and niacin.

It helps reduce pain — Caffeine has profound CNS effects that block the central processing of pain signals in the brain and that increase the effectiveness of the body’s natural pain killing mechanisms.

May protect your liver — Coffee drinkers have a much lower risk of cirrhosis, which can be caused by several diseases that affect the liver.

ONLY ONE NEGATIVE

As you now know, coffee has many benefits for the mind and body and should be consumed daily if wanting too. The only negative side to coffee is over consuming or having too much caffeine throughout the day. So that begs the question… how many cups of coffees per day is too much?

“In order to maintain a healthy heart and a healthy blood pressure, people must limit their coffees to fewer than six cups a day — based on our data six was the tipping point where caffeine started to negatively affect cardiovascular risk.”

CONCLUSION

Coffee may even boost longevity! All in all, coffee has many health benefits and should be consumed as and when you want some, just don’t have too many cups throughout the day!
