Knowing the crime statistics of your area and your state is very important. Different states have different statistics, some have more crime while others do not, but it is also important to analyze population size to crime statistics. A state can seem to have so much crime, but when compared to the population of another state and their crime statistics, it can result in a much smaller percentage of violence.

Below are the violent crime statistics of the state of Texas. In total there were 69,447 violent crime cases committed, and the data was collected for both genders of all ages and ethnicities. Based on the data, it is evident that the victims were mostly white males and the crimes were carried out using personal weapons, which is a weapon the attacker owns.

In the data below various weapons were shown, the majority belonging to the gun category, but it is broken down into the various types of guns used to carry out these attacks. The most common was a handgun, which is a hand-held arm, and the second most used weapon was a personal weapon, which is one that a person owns and is allowed to have or carry. Firearms can fall under this category if it is owned by the person.

Furthermore, taking into account the population size of Texas, the amount of violent crime (this does not include every other type of crime), is not as prevalent as it is in other states like Illinois, specifically Chicago.
