Life as a Law Student During a Pandemic

Covid-19 has impacted different aspects of people’s lives, some people have felt the effects of Covid-19 more than others, but regardless it has been a difficult adjustment for everyone.

Lais Morales, a first-year law student, has adjusted her entire life and routine to continue her law studies at St. Thomas University. When Lais first applied in February of 2020, she did not expect her first year in graduate school to be done virtually while living through a pandemic. When she first found out about the pandemic, she thought that by the time she started school in August everything would be back to normal, but a different set events took place.

Although she has adjusted well to virtual learning, she still misses the social interactions and physical aspect of school. Because no one was allowed back on campus, Lais was unable to do the traditional professionalism oath all law students do on their first year. Missing out on events like these at times saddens her, but she continues on with her studies and tries to maintain as much relationship virtually with her fellow classmates and teachers.

Lais worries if it will be hard to go back to in person schooling, because she has already gotten used to her new routine but is also looking forward to making relationships once she is back on campus.

St. Thomas University is opening their campus for all law students to attend in January, until then she continues her virtual learning and preparations for finals week that are coming up soon.
