In the past week, all South Florida counties have risen to the high community level for COVID-19 cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Each community level represents the level of risk citizens who reside in the county are at for exposure to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each level is determined based on the number of citizens that reside in the county, how many hospital beds are available, and how many positive COVID-19 tests are counted weekly per 100,000 people.

Low risk counties can be more relaxed in their daily lives and do not have to worry about working from home, going out to dinner, or going to the gym. Medium risk counties should refrain from taking public transportation and traveling. High risk counties should avoid going to crowded areas, especially if they are indoors.

The CDC recommends vaccinations, as well as booster doses to stay safe amidst this ongoing pandemic. Their statistics show a reduction in contracting the virus by 90% of adults who have received two or three doses of the vaccine.

With all counties in the high risk level, South Florida citizens are encouraged to continue wearing a mask if they have symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has contracted the virus to prevent the spread.
