South Florida counties are currently listed in “high” Covid-19 community category, as reported by WPTV NewsChannel 5. Okeechobee is the only South Florida county to be listed as “medium”. The community levels are meant to provide warnings and halt the spread of Covid-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends, in places with “high” community levels, to wear a well-fitting mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status, and to consider avoiding non-essential indoor activities in public where you could be exposed if you are high risk for disease.

Even with the high community level, many vacationers are willing to take the risk as we continue into the summer season. Tourists say they will not be deterred from their vacation as much of the adult population in the U.S. have been vaccinated and boosted, as reported by the Miami Herald.

Tourism in South Florida is a huge source of profit for the state and things are finally rebounding despite covid cases as travelers are not as concerned with whether they get infected with Covid or not. While Covid levels may not be a main deterrent for travelers anymore, increasing inflation rates and gas prices may affect tourism levels this summer. Despite all of this, South Florida is still expecting a booked and busy summer season.
