Since their start in competing in the Olympic games, the United States has won a total of 2,960 medals. The United States also holds the record for the most Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals won in the Olympics.

The runner-up for this record is the Soviet Union with a total of 1,204 medals won in the Olympics.

Something that might explain this winning streak is the incentive for athletes to compete and bring these medals home. The US is currently the country with the highest payout for medals won in the world.

Team USA pays $37,500 to gold medalists, $22,500 to silver medalists, and $15,000 to bronze medalists, whether they competed individually or as part of a team.

You may have noticed that Russia was substituted by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), this is because Russia was sanctioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in 2019. This would ban Russia from competing in the Olympic games for four years, but was later reduced to only be from December 17, 2020, until December 17, 2022.
