Innis & Gunn, a brewery based in Edinburgh, recently released 500 pints of a very exclusive, “heavenly” beer. The call the pale ale “Sky PA”. Why? Well, it’s an IPA, but the water comes from, as you may have guessed, the sky. Basically they attached a turbine and a condenser onto a drone and flew it through some clouds in the UK. The water they harvested was the only water used in brewing their unique beer. Unfortunately, they don’t plan on making any more of this beer due to how much of a hassle it is. There are, however, several breweries making beers exclusively with rain water. The general idea of pulling water out of thin air is being applied in much more useful ways. WaterSeer is a device that combines the same two components — a turbine and a condenser — to produce free clean water in remote places. Wind powers the turbine that pumps air underground, where it is cooled until the water vapor condenses and collects in the underground tank. Up to 37 liters a day can be collected by a single WaterSeer, and pumped out at any time.
