Questionably Sized Islands

Quick fact today…continuing in the geography (topology?) theme begun by Dilski. In New York there is a 2,000 island chain called the “Thousand Islands chain.” In the 1950’s, the Sizeland family (the irony is soon to come) purchased one of the smaller islands and erected walls at the outermost perimeters of the island, leaving room for only beach chairs in front of the house.
The family originally built this house as a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, but it has since become a tourist attraction, being officially renamed “Just Room Enough Island.” To date, the island contains only the house, a tree, and a pair of benches in front of the house. While some have questioned the legitimacy of the “island” status, it reaches the three criteria for an island in the region: 1)it must be more than one square foot, 2) it must contain at least one tree, and 3) it must remain above water all year round.
