Now that the Fixathon is finally underway we’d love to see everyone working as publically as possible. By doing so we hope to raise awareness in the tech community of the climate emergency.

The good news is that Makerlog (the host platform of The Climate Fixathon) is a collaborative public task log with a variety of features that will help you develop your project in the open over the next 4 weeks.

We’ve created a guide below detailing what you need to do to set up your Fixathon project and how to go about sharing your progress.

Getting set up

To participate in the Fixathon all you need to is register to attend our event on Makerlog. Once you have it’s time to add the product you’re working on or get added to a product team if it’s already been created.

How to add a product

One person from each team should add your Fixathon product. While you’re doing so (or later by pressing edit) you should also:

Access the events tab and add the product to the Climate Fixathon event.

  • Access the team tab and add your team members to the product.
  • Access the hashtags tab and associate hashtags with the product. By doing so you’ll be able to use them to log tasks on Makerlog which will then appear automatically on our Fixathon event log. Please note all team members must add their own hashtags to the product in order to have their tasks to be associated with the product and event.

Don’t forget to hit save in the bottom left when you’re done editing.

Getting to work

Log your tasks

Press add a new task on the Makerlog homepage and log everything you’ve completed. Don’t forget to use a product hashtag so it will show up on the Fixathon event!

Add your milestones

Achieve a big milestone like a beta launch of first sign up? You can add milestones too via the add a new task modal.

Post your daily stand up

Each day we’ll post a Daily Standup thread on Makerlog. Feel free to reply with what you plan to work on that day.

Create an Impact Makers project channel

Create a channel in the Impact Makers Slack (eg proj-your-product-name) to communicate with your team members and request feedback from the groups 560+ members.

Tweet your progress

Tweet how you’re progressing with your project using the #fixathon and #FixTheClimate hashtags.

Join our weekly calls

Online hackathons lack that IRL event buzz, so we’ve decided to hold weekly calls for all participants. They’re a great opportunity for us to get to know each other, chat about our projects and the climate emergency.

There will be two calls each Saturday to suit different time zones.

  • 11:00 CEST
  • 18:00 PT

Join this Google Hangout to chat at either time. Don’t forget to add the call to your 📅 calendar so you don’t forget.

Thanks for taking part 🙌

It’s amazing to see so many people from around the globe taking part in the Fixathon with 269 registered. We wish you all the best and hope your projects help fix the climate!

Want to join after the Fixathon starts?
