Running a large-scale event can be daunting, especially if it’s your first time.

1. Pick a ticketing specialist

Fancy features are great, but nothing is fancier than handling payment efficiently and making sure your guests end up with the right ticket.

2. Make sure the ticketing is multi-channel

People buy their tickets on their computers and phones, in 2016 it’s about 50:50, so you want a service that can showcase your event on every channel. There’s no point limiting your sales.

3. Nobody likes queuing

Make sure the ticketing platform you choose provides the fastest digital way of checking guests into your event. Scan tickets in the queue and get students through the door.

4. Horses for courses

If you’re running a student event, pick a ticketing company that specialises in student events. People like relatable brands.

5. Think about the future

It’s not just about selling tickets. What if someone wants to transfer a ticket to a friend or get a refund? Don’t get involved. Your ticketing team should look after this.

6. Do you have a point of contact?

You’re running an event and there’s a problem; do you really want to ring an 0800 number with a recorded message? You should have someone who will pick up in your hour of need.

7. Make sure they have great customer service

You’ll want help answering questions from your 1,000 guests. Let someone else field any ticketing questions.

8. Manage your cash flow

Suppliers often need paying up front so make sure you can get your hands on ticket proceeds before the event or there ain’t gonna be no party.

9. Promote your event properly

Take advantage of the latest technological trends like push notifications, Snapchat filters and audience analytics. Use these tools to make sure your next event is always more popular than the last.

10. You need a proven track record

Make sure you go with a company that has a proven track record of large scale events. It’s your shop window and the service needs to be perfect.
