Flash Fiction Challenge #11 is inpired by these three words: nightmare, clown, television

The six weeks of quiet came to an end with the slamming of doors and loud voices at about midnight. He didn’t know where they’d been, but the occupants of the share house next door had been away, and now they were back.

He rolled over and pulled the pillow over his head. The sound of the distant television seemed to pierce straight through the walls.

Rob’s life had been a nightmare since the group moved in. It wasn’t loud parties, just constant noise, 24/7. There was always someone leaving for an early shift or coming home from a late shift in a noisy old car or smoking and talking on the back verandah underneath his bedroom window.

He’d had enough.

He was ready.

He sat in the dark in the clown suit and the scary makeup, clutching the megaphone, until they were quiet. Asleep.

4 am.

Showtime!

The next story is inspired by: crustacean, mine, vulture
