Flash Fiction Challenge #7 inpired by: gnat, ferret, saliva

Slamming doors and shouting had been crashing down from upstairs for an hour. Three parental peace-making missions had been mounted, only to be rebuffed at the top of the stairs by the teenage fury that raged above.

Something fell past the window.

“What was that?”

“I think he just threw her soft-toy ferret out the window.”

There was a scream from upstairs. Then a dull thud.

He closed his laptop. “I’m going to work in the cabana,” he said.

She opened her mouth to protest, but he was gone.

He sat down in the old wicker chair, took a deep breath and inhaled a gnat. Little specs of saliva hit the computer screen in a neat pattern as he spat it out.

Something bit his leg.

Enough.

He typed.

The email threatening immediate withdrawal of wifi access from the theatre of war flew through the ether.

Silence fell.
