Flat6Labs Bahrain’s First Bootcamp Concludes with a Bang!
Flat6Labs Bahrain held its very first bootcamp from May 6–10, welcoming 14 candidate startup teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Switzerland to a week of training and workshops in preparation for the selection committee. These startups were selected from the over 150 founding teams from over 30 countries that applied to Flat6Labs Bahrain’s first acceleration cycle for a chance to develop and test their businesses further, as well as help Flat6Labs get a better understanding of the businesses in greater detail.
With input from KPMG, Bahrain EDB, Tamkeen, Newton Legal consultants, and Kromatic, the bootcamp conducted a series of sessions which actively encouraged the candidate startup teams to develop their skills around a number of topics related to running a lean startup. Bahrain EDB gave an insightful session on business opportunities in Bahrain and the StartUp Bahrain initiative and Flat6Labs Bahrain’s local partner, Tamkeen, gave an overview of the valuable support they provide startups setting up in Bahrain and the various types of financial support the startups would be eligible to apply for.
Joining the bootcamp all the way from Silicon Valley, Kromatic conducted multiple sessions and workshops covering topics such as customer discovery, planning for scale, research and experiment design and how to pitch to investors. The candidate startups were definitely kept busy! They also received an important introduction to the regulatory environment in Bahrain by KPMG and Newton Consulting representatives, who briefed the startups on everything from commercial registration to accounting and tax regulations.
The bootcamp concluded with the candidate startup founders presenting before the selection committee, which was formed of members from the Flat6Labs board as well as senior stakeholders from key partners. The selected teams will be joining Flat6Labs Bahrain’s first cycle starting in July and will receive $30K in cash funding, access to 300+ local and international mentors, legal support and services and more.
