New-Look Live Races
When FleetWit first launched, it consisted of a single live trivia race each night. Though we’ve come a long way since then, live races remain one of our most popular features. With the most recent update to the FleetWit platform we’ve made some big changes to the way our live races work in order to give users more opportunities to win. Below is a rundown of some the key updates we’ve made.
The Live Races You Know and Love
Before getting into what’s new, it’s worth recapping what we’re keeping from the previous version. Most notably, we’re retaining our basic schedule of afternoon and evening live races — every day there is a live race at 9:30 pm EST, and on weekdays we also feature a live race at 2:30 pm EST. The 2:30 race exists in two versions that run simultaneously, each using the same questions: a free version as well as a “Premium” version with a $5 entry fee. These races all adhere to the same general content schedule:
For all of these races, we write fresh questions each week, so there is no way you’ll be locked out of either a 2:30 or 9:30 live race.
What’s a Medley?
The Thursday afternoon race, as well as the Sunday, Monday and Friday evening races are called “medleys”, our twist on a general knowledge quiz. Every medley features one question from each of our 10 main categories (Movies, Music, TV, Sports, Food and Drink, Geography, Science, History, Literature, and General Trivia). It’s our way of ensuring there’s a little something for everyone. Since we want these races to be accessible, no question will dive too deeply into its subject matter. So, for example, if you’re not a sports person, not to worry — the sports question will never be something that a generally perceptive person wouldn’t be able to figure out. For live races that follow this format, the word “medley” will always appear in the race description.
Live Races Galore!
If you’ve checked FleetWit recently, you know that we have many more live races than the 2:30 and 9:30 offerings described above. That’s because the most recent update added the ability to run live races all day long! In general, these additional live races run on the hour or half-hour, and you can expect to see a rotating selection of popular categories like The Office (U.S.), Commonly Misspelled Words, and World Capitals.
Unlike the 2:30 and 9:30 races, these extra races draw from our existing database of questions. This means there’s a small chance you might be locked out of a race if you’ve already seen one of the questions being used (this is to prevent anyone from gaining an unfair advantage). The good news is that if there is a race that you are not allowed to play because you’ve already seen a question, that race won’t show up in the live race feed in your app. So if you see a live race in your feed, you’re eligible to play it!
Dynamic Prizes
The other big change we made is the introduction of dynamic prizes. This means the prize pool grows as more players join the race. There isn’t one single equation that governs how the prizes increase, rather the equation is slightly different depending on how many users have joined. We do this to ensure the prize distribution never becomes too top- or bottom-heavy. Despite this minor variance, a few factors always hold true:
- The total prize pool grows larger with each user who registers for a race
- The top 25% of registrants always win a prize
- The minimum prize is greater than or equal to the entry fee for the race
Because of the new prize structure, we’ve also set a two-player minimum for all of our live races. Since a race will never run with fewer than two players, the number you see when browsing the live race feed is what the prizes would be if two players joined, even if there haven’t been any registrations yet. If you are the only person to register for a live race by the time it is scheduled to run, then your entry fee will be refunded.
So join a live race and then get your friends to register — it just means more prizes for you!
New Categories
As longtime FleetWit players know, we’re dedicated to constantly expanding our category offerings. With the most recent update, we decided to integrate our new categories with the revamped live race platform. Every Sunday at 9:45 pm EST, following our Free-for-all, a new category will debut as a live race. This category will then run as a live race every night in the 9:45 pm slot until the following Sunday, when it will be added to our 1-v-1 category list in order to make way for the next new category. So be sure to tune in on Sunday nights to check out the latest from FleetWit.
We hope this new structure will provide more players more opportunities to win and make it easier for users to discover new categories. If you have questions about any of the above, feel free to reach out on customer support or email us at hello@fleetwit.com, and, as always, happy racing!
