The data from each vehicle is recorded on a Black Box, a small device that is plugged into the OBD or the CAN-BUS port. It is then transmitted via a cellular network to enable communication on a fleet management software application or website. This is done using a SIM card and modem that is attached to the Black Box.
A Telematics device has many key components such as an Input/output interface, GPS receiver, SIM card, engine interface, accelerometer, and buzzer. These elements allow it to gather pertinent data such as driver behaviour, engine diagnostics, vehicle location, and vehicle activity. Companies can gain insight into this information and get easy-to-understand visualisations on the fleet management software. It can be then used for optimising operations and managing resources better.
