Sometimes you get lucky and your personal passions and professional skills align in a way that creates real, impactful change…and gives you “all the feels.”

For me, this became a reality in March 2014 when FleishmanHillard Boston began its pro-bono partnership with Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. Over the years, our team’s commitment to this relationship, making a difference in our community, and specifically to improving the lives of Boston’s women and girls, has taken many forms, but our role as trusted advisors, strategic thinkers and adept communicators has never wavered or waned.

We’ve been lucky enough to be a part of many of the most exciting developments inside of Big Sister (some highlights below) — all the while capturing the meaningful, always life-changing relationships and profound outcomes between Big and Little sisters that serve as the foundation for storytelling.

  1. Planning for former first lady and Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton’s participation in the annual Big Sister Big in Boston gala
  2. Launching and supporting Big Sister’s #girls2great and #bepresentnotperfect campaigns
  3. Formal recognition as the National Agency of the Year and the only agency exclusively serving girls, by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
  4. Rolling out new programs such as The New Girls Network and Real Choices Strong Voices

Earlier this week, we were thrilled and honored to celebrate Big Sister’s 2017/2018 achievements during their Annual Meeting, and surprised and elated to be recognized as the recipient of the 2018 Big Sister Partner of the Year award. Our FleishmanHillard team was described as going above and beyond for Big Sister and its beneficiaries and representing the core values that they strive to project to the Big Sister community of supporters. In the words of Big Sister CEO, Deborah Re; “How amazing is that?”

Today, and into the future, as I reflect on this honor, I am emboldened to want to do more, push boundaries, and lean further into the work. It’s rewarding, and it feels good.

As a born and bred Boston girl, I want to continue to serve Boston’s girls — MY GIRLS. I want to help create recognized communities in which every girl has access to nurturing, guidance and support to become their best selves.

After all, I truly believe that Big Sister has helped me see and define the best version of who I am. And while I know the Big Sister organization has come to need FleishmanHillard, it turns out I need them too! I’m forever grateful for the partnership that motivated me personally and professionally beyond any other.
