Elvis was co-produced and directed by Baz Luhrmann, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Sam Bromell, Craig Perce, and Jeremy Doner.
The story told of the life of rock and roll singer and actor Elvis Presley, played by actor Austin Butler. He was managed by Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks. Some supporting roles included Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, Helen Thomson, as Elvis’ mother, and Richard Roxburgh as Elvis’ father.
The uncanny look-a-like of Austin Butler as Elvis was pretty startling. His performance was wonderful, which got him a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards that year. He won a Golden Globe award for his performance. He did much of the singing in the movie. His whole performance brought back Elvis in a real way. His performance is one not to be missed.
Tom Hanks as Colonel Parker was impressive as he always is in all the films he’s done.
The movie encompassed Elvis’ life from childhood and the influential people and events that stayed with him and gave him the love of spiritual music, the love of the blues, and playing the guitar. The story keeps unfolding as he grows up. One of his performances rocked an audience in a tent that brought Colonel Tom Parker, a carnival huckster, to the realization that Elvis was a goldmine waiting…
