Who was television pioneer Dan Curtis?
Dan Curtis of Dan Curtis Productions was a household name in television circles for nearly five decades. He was a visionary, showman, salesman, and writer/producer of the most, iconic series including The Winds of War, War and Remembrance, and The Night Stalker. His most famous series was the haunting gothic soap opera Dark Shadows.
Curtis was a multifaceted person who wasn’t afraid to take chances. He was passionate about golf and felt the rest of the world would be too so developed a TV series called CBS Golf Classic. Curtis quit his full-time job to be a writer/promoter to sell this show concept.
After 300 rejections of his show concept, Curtis was still, pounding, the pavement to sell the Golf Classic. He knew he was on to something, it would come.
Curtis was flatbroken by the time he had received an offer of sale from CBS. They offered him $50,000. However, Curtis dared to request the producer increase the offer to $150,000. The show became a hit and launched Curtis into a writing and producing career spanning generations.
