Warrior
A series now on Netflix
The series Warrior first appeared on Cinemax from 2019–2023. All three season episodes are now on Netflix, and I found it to be a real gem of a series to watch. Actor Andrew Koji, the main character played Ah Sahm, who fit the part like a glove, including the many actors that graced each episode such as Dianne Doan as Mai Ling, Olivia Cheng as Ah Toy, Jason Tobin as Young Jun, and Joe Taslin as Li Yong, and so many more.
The story is based on the writings of Bruce Lee and was executive produced by his daughter, Shannon Lee, and directed by Justin Lin.
The main parts of the series are about the Tong wars between the Hop Wei gang and the Long Zii gang. The setting is in the late 1870s San Francisco. Ah Sahm goes in search of his sister Xiaojing (also known as Mai Ling) in San Francisco’s Chinatown. It’s also about the Irish mob who treat the Chinese badly, upset about not only that they are foreigners, but foreigners who are taking jobs away from them. The Chinese are also mistreated by the police force. There are plenty of fights between all factions. Politics played a big part in the movie and you will see how many of them were out to return the Chinese back to China, who also set in motion anything they could to disrupt their lives and destroy their businesses.
