Apple Rejects the Steam Link App on iOS

Apple has denied Valve’s request to have the Steam Link App added to the App Store. Valve announced last week that they were expecting to launch the Steam Link App on iOS and Android devices during the week of May 21st. They were only able to successfully launch on Android.

Apple Denies the Steam Link App

In a move that even surprised Valve, Apple has decided to reject the Steam Link App for iOS. The App was originally approved for release back on May 7th according to Valve.

“The following morning, Apple revoked its approval citing business conflicts with app guidelines that had allegedly not been realized by the original review team,” — Valve

According to Variety, Valve appealed this decision and was still denied. At this point it doesn’t appear that Apple is going to change it’s mind.

“Ultimately, that appeal was denied leaving the Steam Link app for iOS blocked from release… The team here spent many hours on this project and the approval process, so we’re clearly disappointed. But we hope Apple will reconsider in the future.” — Valve

The Future

As disappointing as this has to be for iOS owners, it may not be the end of the story. As Valve pointed out, Apple could always reconsider their decision in the future. There may also be changes that Valve can make to bring their App within Apple’s standards. Keep in mind that other Game Streaming Apps have been approved for iOS (Remotr, Moonlight).

Most Game Streaming companies have plans to release for iOS (including Rainway, Parsec, and Shadow). Hopefully Valve’s denial will not be a precursor for what happens in the future for these companies.
