Shadow Prepares to open up it’s iOS Beta

Shadow made a big splash with their California Launch last week. They have been vocal about their goal to become a premiere destination for Cloud Gamers. While they are very excited to have expanded beyond Europe, Shadow isn’t sitting still. They recently revealed details about their plans to move beyond computers.

Next Step: iOS

Apple’s iOS platform is essential untouched by the majority of Cloud Gaming companies. For whatever reason, Streaming Products seem to give it a wide berth. As of today, the only real Streaming Products available on iOS are Remotr and Moonlight (neither of which is a Cloud Product). Shadow plans to change that.

Shadow recently announced via Discord that they are planning to expand their iOS beta to all customers during the week of March 6th.

Shadow has been gradually adding users to their iOS Beta for some time. However, this is the first time that they’ve announced that they will be opening it up to all Shadow users.

Additional Improvements

In addition to opening up their iOS Beta, Shadow is also preparing for a major update on March 19th. This update will address unrecognized Graphic Cards, Uninstalled Drivers, Bluetooth Device recognition, Stability, Audio Crackling, and Keyboard Detection. They are also focusing on improving storage. This includes testing new storage arrays in anticipation of their upcoming iOS Beta.

Opportunities

While these advances are exciting, Shadow still has some important details to sort out. Their unique Shadow Box is still unavailable to order in the United States. This is pretty significant because it’s one of their best and most interesting features. The Shadow Box is a Streaming Client that is optimized to get the most out of Shadow’s service.

Shadow is also still limited to California in the United States. This is understandable considering what it takes to launch a data center in a new region. However it is causing some problems for them. People have been spoofing their location in order to sign up for Shadow outside of California. This such a significant issue that Shadow addressed it directly on Discord. They are asking their excited fans to wait until Shadow is available in their region. We’ve already touched on how important proximity is to Cloud Gaming. If you’re physically far from the Data Center that you’re trying to utilize, your gaming experience can really suffer. Shadow is concerned that using Shadow outside of California could give users the wrong impression of the service. We would agree. If you live outside of California, try to wait just a little bit longer so that you can have an enjoyable gaming experience when Shadow launches in your region.
