The original Shadow Streaming Box is a thing of the past. Today they announced a brand new Streaming Box that they are calling Shadow Ghost. It promises to improve on it’s predecessor while shedding some weight. It could be everything that you need to enjoy Cloud Gaming.

Introducing Shadow Ghost

Shadow Ghost is all about no-compromise Cloud Gaming. The goal is to offer a premium alternative to playing through a PC without a premium price tag. It will support both 1080p and 4K Game Streaming. At 1080p you’ll be able to play at up to 144 fps (assuming that your monitor can handle it). 4K will look crisper, but will be limited to 60 fps. It comes with an upgraded HDMI 2.0 video port. Ghost also brings a slew of additional improvements.

It will support both Ethernet and 802.11ac Wifi. You’ll be able to use your favorite Bluetooth accessories (like the Xbox One S Controller). Shadow Ghost is completely fanless which means that it’s completely silent. It’s more compact than the original and weighs less than 7 ounces. You’ll get 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports. Shadow wants you to be able to use any accessories that you would normally use with a traditional Gaming PC. Here’s a full list of the specs:

  • Wi-Fi 802.11 ABGN AC (Dual Band 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz up to 400 Mbps)
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Ethernet 1 Gb (RJ45)
  • USB 2.0 x 2
  • USB 3.0 x 2
  • HDMI 2.0
  • Jack in/out 3.5 mm
  • Power 36w 12V x 3A

What happens to the Original Shadow Box?

If you’re the proud owner of an Original Shadow Box, then nothing will change. You’re welcome to upgrade to Shadow Ghost when it becomes available. They don’t plan to offer any sort of trade-in for those that own the Original Shadow Box. As of today the Original Shadow Box is sold out and will not be offered again. Those that are interested in acquiring Shadow’s dedicated Cloud Gaming hardware will need to wait for the launch of Shadow Ghost.

Pricing?

With the original Shadow Box, Gamers had the option of buying or renting it. Shadow is dropping the rental option with Shadow Ghost and is making it purchase-only. It will cost $139.95 in the United States and £109.95 in Europe.

Shadow is planning to launch Shadow Ghost at some point during Q4 of 2018. It will be available in the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and the United States. The plan for now is to launch in Europe first with the United States following soon after.
