Flipboard and Mastodon Powering Up a Community
This happened!
I am an avid Flipboard user and I have been on Twitter for over 15 years. I typically navigate to my account through the Flipboard API. Well, suddenly my feed disappeared from Flipboard!
This article is not about singing the “Bird” Blues but about embracing the Purple Elephant! Yes, for those of you who are on Mastodon, you know what I am talking about. Those that aren’t, welcome onboard! You are going to experience an intimate “SAFE” crowd willing to engage and enjoy mutual experiences.

Our Flipboard community got much larger with the Mastodon partnership. This alliance offers many benefits to new and existing Flipboard and Mastodon users.
What is Mastodon? It’s an open-source social media platform that allows you to share content in a decentralized network. Mastodon focuses on user privacy and control over personal data.
The interface operates on a federated model (Hence the word “Fediverse”). Different communities (called instances) hosted on different servers can communicate with one another. This gives users more control over their own data.
Because Mastodon does not rely on advertising as a source of revenue it can focus on the needs of its users. This will allow you can reach an even wider audience to share your content and publication.
On a personal note: As an artist and business owner, my world suddenly became much wider.
By day I am a partner at a marketing and PR firm. By night, I am a fine artist looking to get my art more exposure. Through the Fediverse and Flipboard, I am propelled into a very visible networking group. With hashtags, I am able to communicate and identify communities that we want to engage.
