Finding the Right Topics to Build a Magazine.
Here are a few tips to identify topics on Flipboard that align with audience interests.
- The “For You” Section
This section is the first thing you see on your Flipboard tiles as you open the app. The “For You” is a personalized feed based on your interests. Popular topics from people you follow will show up here, Readers read this section first to keep up-to-date. Flip through to find the latest trends tailored to your preferences. I rely on many articles here for my magazine curation.
2. The Discover Section
Explore Flipboard’s “Discover” section. This is the most important starting point to find topics that are popular in your category. Look at the attached image to get a sense of what topics are currently trending. The numbers under each topic give you a gauge of what readers’ reading habits are. Once you make a selection, the algorithm will build a convenient magazine with a mix of popular articles, blogs, and magazines. Add this “Smart Magazine” to your home screen for easy access. Take some time to explore this category. Make notes of the articles that are getting a lot of engagement.

Flipboard is working to integrate with the Fediverse. Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky, PeerTube, and more are goldmines of information. Especially as more publishers federate. This content might resonate on Flipboard as well. The use of hashtags related to your niche also helps to discover important conversations. I follow hashtags about topics I add to Flipboard, like art, photography, and travel. If your account is federated or not, use it to find topic ideas.
Here’s a magazine where I gather my Fediverse inspiration:
Conversations On The Fediverse EDU
6. Use The “Search” Feature
Use Flipboard’s search feature: to find topics. Type in broad terms like “technology,” “travel,” or “AI” to see the latest content and related stories.
