Welcome to the Flipside Governance Team recap! Here’s a weekly summary of heady governance activity, hard-hitting content & data analysis we published, and key news stories across the broader governance space.

Team Highlights 🚨

  • Released the Marinade Governance Dashboard, the first governance analytics dashboard on Solana! Improved reporting (through dashboards like these) will incentivize governance participation and decentralization on Solana.

  • Ian won the New User of the Month badge on Orca for May (better a delayed award, than never), bringing his total to 3 badges in May!

Research and Content ✏️

  • What Drives Governance Participation on Osmosis Zone? (6/27): Jess uses a ton of Flipside data to analyze participation in Osmosis governance. What drives growth in new users and first-time voters? What proposals mobilize voters? Charts on charts in this one — check it out!
  • You’re Hiring Wrong: Do It More Like Web3 (6/27): Avi writes a piece for CoinDesk about the Web3 hiring process and how the talent acquisition model of “exclusion via inclusion” may offer a better alternative to the traditional hiring process.

Governance News for the Week 📰

  • MakerDAO Community Votes “No” on Restructuring Proposals: A series of contentious proposals that would implement structured management teams — including a Lending Oversight Unit and two Task Forces — dominated headlines in Maker this week. The proposals attracted record participation from MKR holders, with 30%+ voting on Prop 822.
  • Optimism Kicks off Voting Cycle #2: OP’s Voting Cycle #1 concluded last week with ~36mm OP tokens to be released across 25 unique incentive programs constructed by projects on Optimism. Voting Cycle #2 is underway (as well as Phase 1 of the Optimism Governance Fund), with another ~200mm OP up for grabs.
  • Tand3m Launches DAO-to-DAO Token Swap: Built on top of @openzeppelin governor contracts, Tand3m allows DAOs to set up D2D token-swap deals, generate and vote on on-chain proposals, and execute swap deals with tons of flexibility.

Governance Chart of the Week 📊

Data from Flipside Crypto

A critical proposal regarding the $100M Harmony Bridge exploit is currently under discussion in the Aave forum. This chart shows the number of deposits on Harmony One per day before and after the hack (red line). Deposits have declined significantly showing that there is some value in the Aave community freezing the market, although deposits are unlikely to return to pre-hack levels.

Flipside Governance Activity 📜
