I love going to work in the rain- said no one EVER!

It’s a lovely day. The rain is pouring hard and I can’t stop staring outside the window with a hot cup of tea in my hand, thinking about the wonder that is nature. Everything is enveloped in a blanket of green and the smell of wet mud, oh the wet mud! I mean, life couldn’t get any better. Just then I look at my watch and *BOOM* it’s 9:30 am. With the sting of that broken bubble, all that is green and sacred in the world now seems to be a sham- I now have a ticking bomb on my hands. Behold, the greatest dilemma of every office goer:

Is today worth it-(monsoon edition)?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my job (echoing my inner Emily Charlton here)-

but the sheer idea of getting to work in the rain- thinking about catching a ride without getting the ends of your pants wet with muddy delight, endless traffic snarls, caring for an umbrella- hello responsibility! I can barely hold it together as it is, and now I have to care for an umbrella- I mean come on! By the time you’ve reached work, you’re exhausted and just pitying yourself looking at your sorry soaking state. To make matters worse, the central air conditioning at 16 degrees makes pneumonia a very real possibility.

Cranky and cold, I decide to switch on my laptop to get the day going. From sifting through tweets and Facebook posts, I realise that my friends are ranting about the exact same situation. I must be a part of this ordeal, after all misery loves company! Productivity today is going to hit a new low- even for a positive person like me. Being gum boots ready for the monsoon season isn’t quite enough.

As a social media specialist (don’t worry, I haven’t given myself that title :P), I am devoted to apps like Hootsuite, Trello, Basecamp, & mainly Flock to stay on top of my work schedule.

But to even do that, I need to be in a state of mind to be productive at all.

How do I get work done after all?

When it comes to deadlines, the rain just makes it even harder to cope with. This is where technology is a boon to people like me. On days when I really want to enjoy the pouring rain, with a hot cup of tea in my hand thinking about the wonder that is nature: I can actually do it sitting from the comfort of my home with smart apps that help me stay connected to my team wherever I am. Every working professional has in some way or another been exposed to such tools, so it only makes sense to adopt these and make work life a little easier!

So, don’t bring around a cloud to rain on your parade, literally! Use smarter tools to get work done, no matter what the circumstance. And on that poignant note, I take your leave!

Happy working.
