No time to explain. In this series of articles, I do a quick review of websites where we’ll discuss three flowchart aspects such as onboarding, killer features and dark patterns. Today we are going to focus on Loom. Giddy up!

#1 — Onboarding

What’s good?
The app allows using a wide range of ways (via Google, Apple, Slack, Outlook) to sign in which gives another advantage compared to similar products. To me the suggested big number of tools looks way more like a troubleshooting clip rather than something that confuses users. Having signed in you find yourself in a place where your first video is about to be created — it will be ready in no time. This is magic! Wait a moment: how the heck did they know my teammates? Yep, joking. Of course this information is provided by Slack due to account connection, but to be honest at first I was a bit surprised.

What I’ve learned?

  1. Explore what API’s gives you
  2. Use videos on your educational content

#2 — Sharing on Loom

What’s good?
The design pattern being applied is quite known and easy to use, especially small and lovely micro-interactions that spiced this sequence up. Nothing to say more, can’t wait to show you this flow.

#3 — Editing a video on Loom

This video was made by pageflows.com and shows you a full process in details

What’s good?
The entire application is designed very well: notifications on the video progress bar, the way Loom trims videos — all is so smooth and relaxed. I know a few professional applications (like👋hi, Ableton) with similar trimming process, and there might be hotkeys to preview selected segmentation, but it’s quite enough for now, let’s move on.

What I’ve learned?

  1. Getting inspired by colleagues from neighboring workshops

Outro

Asynchronous communication is definitely the direction where the design teams are heading to in 2022, and imagine — Loom has been there since 2015. Unlike the widely used Zoom, so favored by “white collars”, for official meetings and calls, Loom with its intuitive design walkthrough and showcasing suits more for pizza parties and fun. I really enjoy the process and highly recommend this for your daily use.
