Call for artists + workshop proposals: “Construct and Deconstruct: Queer Visual Dialogues” (June 2018)
Edit (May 9, 2018): Deadline for submission has been extended to Tuesday, May 22!
In honor of the LGBTQ+ History Month in this challenging time for the queer community, the Floy Preslar Gallery will present a juried art exhibit that explores the subjects of identity, sexuality, self-image, and community at the intersection of queerness and other challenges in life.
In addition, on the show opening day (Saturday, June 2), we will be hosting a private, invitation-only Queer Art Party in the Woods to celebrate the queer artists and to foster collaboration and networking in a decidedly queer-positive environment.
Workshop proposals (for the Queer Art Party in the Woods) are also accepted. Each workshop may be an hour-long, 90-minute-long, or two-hour-long, and workshop presenters may charge a fee from participants to cover the costs of materials and labor involved. We are looking for up to four workshops.
Other possible activities currently under consideration include a non-instructed figure drawing session, an outdoor area set aside for artistic photo shoots, and an evening of community celebration with potluck, barbeque, and open-mic.
Deadline for art: Tuesday, May 22.
Deadline for workshop proposals: Saturday, May 5.
Art show opening events:
- Saturday, June 2: Queer Art Party in the Woods! (private, invitation-only)
- Sunday, June 3: public open hours
The show runs from Saturday, June 2 through Sunday, June 24.
