On Saturday, Aug. 4, we are pleased to bring you Danell Ellingson from Edmonds, Washington (which is a city in Snohomish County, between Lynnwood and Seattle) for a day of art and fun.

This will be Danell’s first solo show since she picked up painting merely two years ago (!!) and discovered her talent that was unknown even to herself. Her exhibit will run from Saturday, Aug. 4 through Thursday, Aug. 23.

Her work is distinguished by the bold use of colors, light, and brush strokes purely for the sake of your visual delight.

On Saturday, Aug. 4, the Floy Preslar Gallery will present a day of hands-on learning activities in addition to the typical artist reception. Everyone is welcome to participate in either one or both of these workshops!

Noon-8 p.m.: Gallery open house and artist reception

Featuring the oil painting of Danell Ellingson and multimedia presentation of Olga Guse (from Dresden, Germany).

11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Warrior Heart Workshop with Mary Ann Antenucci

From Mary Ann: “The Warrior Heart workshop is to help us view and integrate our experiences as a substance for thriving instead of surviving. We explore our heart as a muscle which has been worn, torn, tested, expanded, contracted and still continues…

We all have betrayal, heartache, heartbreak, progress, and promise. We will explore our emotional resume and transmute our experiences into a personal talisman.

We will be using guided meditation, journaling, movement and making art out of our art of living.”

Materials will be provided. Free.

(Mary Ann Antenucci will be exhibiting her art during the month of October.)

3:30–6:30 p.m.: Paint with Danell (learn acrylic painting) — followed by artist’s forum

From Danell: “Are you like me and struggle with keeping a loose brush stroke? Maybe you can’t let go of the perfectionism but need to find a different style for your paintings? Then join me for an afternoon of fun and relaxation while we explore the world of pallet knife painting. I feel more relaxed and more unwound when I paint with a pallet knife without the fixation on the little details. If you think you would like to give it a go, join me. We will be using acrylics for this session but the technique is quite similar in oil if you want to continue the exploration. I have enough easels to accommodate 11 painters so it will be first come first served if you have your own easel and pallet knife feel free to join in.”

Cost: $10 per person for supplies.

After the workshop (from 6:45 to 7:30 ish), the artist will be available for an informal discussion forum.
