I recently joined the Fluent.ai team at the downtown Montreal headquarters after about a year of pandemic-related time off. As I get to know the incredibly diverse team of people and their stories, I am realizing they are one of the most focused teams I have ever had the honor to join. The Fluent.ai partner and vendor ecosystem is just as professional and respected, and even Gartner has already taken notice, recognizing us as a Cool Vendor in 2020, and featuring Fluent.ai in a more recent Tech Innovators report.

I will be accompanying the larger team in Las Vegas in early January to introduce myself to clients, partners, new professionals and peers, and I look forward to greeting you in one of our partner booths, including our dedicated exhibit suite at The Venetian Resort.

With CES right around the corner, there is renewed energy in the air. Increasingly, people are looking forward to going back to live conferences, with necessary precautions to stay healthy adding to an increasing focus on touchless solutions, especially in the wearables & hearables market sectors, and the worldwide smart home market, which is expected to double in size by the end of 2025 (source: Statista.com — Smart Home — Worldwide ).

Imagine the convenience of telling your air conditioner to cool down your living room, your TV remote to lower the volume, and your kitchen lights to turn on, all while knowing your voice data never left your home.

Why Voice Control?

Conventional Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) solutions were originally designed to translate the spoken word from audio stream to text, aiding with accessibility and automated note-taking.
Then there are applications like Alexa and Google Assistant, designed to take voice commands and turn them into text-based internet searches.
Fluent.ai was founded on solving the shortcomings of text-based approaches in order to design a solution that is specific to the device within which it is embedded, yet flexible enough to allow for custom wake words and voice commands.
Our products are based on the organic evolution of language-learning in humans. Unlike the ASR systems described above, Fluent.ai technology does not add a phonetic transcription process.
There is simply no need for it: our text-independent approach enables the development of speech understanding solutions that can learn to recognize a new language from a small amount of data compared to cloud-based systems, and allows end users to interact with their devices in a more natural and intuitive way.

Fluent.ai technology can be used to enable wearables & hearables with custom wake word and voice intent recognition solutions.

For example, at the consumer level, smart voice interactions between fitness trackers and their wearers provides a much more personalized workout experience.
With smart home and smart hub technologies, appliances, climate control and security devices are coming together to increase quality of life and sanitary standards via a single voice recognition interface.
And in factory settings, workers are controlling their equipment while taking advantage of time-savings derived from low to no-contact assembly line work.

Why is being “offline” important?

Privacy concerns dominate the conversation when it comes to cloud-based ASR solutions, and is a large deterrent to broader adoption: consumers want to know how their voice and other personal, deterministic identifiers are being stored and tracked.
We covered privacy concerns almost a year ago (read our article dated Dec. 28, 2020: Privacy in Your Smart Home: How Fluent.ai Keeps Voice Recognition Safe and Secure), and if anything, these concerns have grown since then.
And let’s not forget environmental factors: we are always on the move, and noise is constant. If you add in each unique speaker’s native language, regional accent, and speech cadence, the intent can be lost or misunderstood with even the simplest of commands, such as “play music”.

Let’s Connect

Our plans continue to develop as CES 2022 nears, and with the incredible list of technologies being covered this year, we would like to invite you to a dedicated 30-minute demo session and introductory conversation onsite at the Venetian Exhibit Suites.
