The old days of CafeDAO have been fun, but we want them to be even funner… Err, more fun! Introducing CafeteriaDAO Semesters.

Flunks Cafe

Introduction

We’ve been working to make some updates to CafeteriaDAO to make the funds easier to use to provide more experiences for you!
CafeteriaDAO Semesters will add more structure and organization to CafeteriaDAO as a whole. Its use will become more frequent and consistent as well. Ohh, there will be bonuses as well! 💸

These voting cycles will operate on a five-week rotation to keep the ideas flowing and fun times coming. Toward the end of these five-week semesters, one proposal will be put into action! Each semester will be broken up into four sections as follows.

  • Preparation — Brainstorm
  • Preheat and Cook — Create and submit proposals
  • Taste Test — Vote
  • Serve — Implement the winning proposal

You must be wondering, “How will this be accomplished?” and “What did you change?” Every section is described below, along with a new way to submit proposals and vote. Let’s dive in and get to cooking!

Week One — Preparation

Preparation week will be kicked off with a study hall on Discord.
These study halls will be hosted by the Flunks team where we will share CafeDAO updates with you and the status of the fund.
We’ll help generate some ideas for you Misfits to create proposals, and then we’ll leave it in your hands to discuss with your fellow classmates what you would like to see created next.

Week Two and Three — Preheat and Cook

Once the community has had their time to mull over proposal ideas the submission window will open for these proposals.
This two-week window will allow your community members to whip up their proposals and tweak ideas from peer feedback.
There’s a new addition to this process, however. The Flunks team will also create proposals and reveal them to you at the beginning of the second week. This will ensure at least two proposals can be voted on in every voting cycle.
The window to submit proposals will close at the end of the semester's third week. At that time the oven is turned off and no more proposals may be submitted until the next semester begins.

Week Four — Taste Test

Week four begins and all the proposals that were just submitted will be put to the (taste) test. You and the Flunk Fam will vote for your ONE favourite proposal from the bunch. Whether there are two proposals or 13, you will only be able to vote for one.
The weight of your votes will remain the same as before; each Flunk is worth one vote.

Week Five — Serve

Time to serve! The final week of each semester will begin with the passing of a new proposal. Soon after that announcement, we will work to bring the latest winning proposal to life with its proposer(s).
Here’s where the bonus comes in. The member that proposed the winning submission will receive $50 in USDC. (If you’d rather receive Flunks merch we can do that too)
Finally, at the end of the semester, we cool down for the week and start it all back soon after!

The Nitty Gritty

Alongside the addition of CafeDAO Semesters, there are some changes being made to the way we create proposals, submit proposals, and vote on proposals. (I’m going to hate the word proposal by the end of this article) As great as it was, the days of using CAST are over. Proposal submission and voting will be done entirely on Discord in dedicated channels.

How to create a proposal

CafeteriaDAO proposals will now be created in Discord using the #proposal-submission channel. Just like a support ticket, you will be prompted to create a closed Discord channel by clicking on the “Create Proposal” button.

This channel will be private to you and the Flunks team. You will enter your proposal name, description, cost and cost breakdown in this channel to submit your proposal. At the end of the proposal submission window, we will compile each completed submission for voting. (If your proposal is vague or missing information we will do our best to get you on track to correct it.)

How to vote on proposals

The voting week will open a few days after all proposal submissions are compiled. You will have your chance to vote for your favourite submission using the #taste-test channel. Each proposal will be listed in this channel along with a voting bot at the bottom of the channel.

You and the weight of your Flunks will be able to vote for ONE proposal. Make sure to vote for your favourite option each semester! Or not, we won’t dictate the way you vote.

Closing remarks

We’re positive there will be questions for us regarding this structure, so we’ve provided QYMAs. (Some people call these FAQs, but we don’t know what you’re going to ask. How can they be frequent?)

Can I resubmit a proposal if it didn’t win?
Yes! You can submit your proposal in as many semesters as you’d like to.

If multiple people took part in creating a winning proposal will they each receive $50?
No, the $50 bonus is per proposal. We encourage you to work together to create these ideas, but we don’t want the bonus to be the main focus of your proposals. Feel free to work some fees or wages into your proposals if you’d like!

Can I submit a proposal that uses a lot/all of the funds?
Yes, you can submit proposals of any type. We don’t want to limit your creativity. Proposals requesting large sums of the fund may be reviewed in further detail by the team and CafeteriaDAO Committee, however.

We look forward to this CafeDAO refresher and welcome any additional questions we may not have predicted. Feel free to ask any questions in Discord or anywhere else you like to ask Flunks your questions.

Let’s get cooking, Flunk Fam!
