Cybersecurity threats is very common nowadays. There are plenty of hackers out there who can your profile or account and get access to your data and personal or confidential information. Many antiviruses have been developed to maintain cybersecurity and to keep your account safe from various malware and viruses.

As far as Macbook is concerned, it is mostly said that it can’t be attacked by any virus so easily. Its internal and in-built security policies are already strong. This leads to the negligence of Macbook users to take some protective measures for Macbook security. Even though the chance of getting attacked by a virus is negligible, Macbook users should be prepared for it.

Just like hackers have advanced technology for hacking others' accounts and profiles, there is pro antivirus which helps in keeping your account safe and sound.

All the Macbook users can follow these steps to keep your Macbook secured:

1. Change passwords regularly –

Change your passwords regularly and try to keep complicated passwords so that they can’t be hacked. If you keep random complicated passwords then you may forget them. You can go for complicated passwords that are generated online. Another option would be, you can create your own random complicated password and write it down for yourself somewhere until you recollect it. Do not keep the same passwords for all your social media accounts.

2. Limit physical access to Macbook –

If your Macbook is used only by you then it’s fine. But, if it used by other people as well, then you need to maintain some security in it by making some changes. Two main changes you need to make are — creating a non-admin account for others and disabling the auto-login feature. Creating a non-admin account for others will deny access to others to some specific system files and disabling auto-login will not let others have access to your main account after restarting your Macbook.

3. Install system updates –

Unexpected system exposure can happen due to a lack of macOS updates. The developers have to rectify the faults in the system before it gets too late. Sometimes, even the most reliable antivirus software is unable to protect the Macbook if the OS fails to ensure certain areas of the computer’s safety. When it comes to system updates, people look at the new features or improvements in the phone but fail to see what it does to the overall cybersecurity of the computer.

4. Browse via VPN’s –

VPN — Virtual Private Network helps in encrypting your data and changes your IP address which makes it difficult for the hackers to track your location and access the device you use for the internet. VPN’s are of great help while using the internet in public places like cafes or libraries. Public internet access is a perfect place for hackers to attack unsuspecting people.

5. Create data backups –

It is always better to have backups of your data. Get yourself an external hard drive and sync the files with Time Machine or if you do not have that much data, you can transfer it to iCloud or Dropbox. Cloud services are free with an option to pay a monthly fee for extra storage.
