FlureeDB Update — 8/22/18

The beta tag is off. Thanks to a fantastic crowd of developers who provided initial feedback from our late November beta release, FlureeDB is now available and ready to transform application development, power digital transformation, and manifest practical usage of blockchain technology.

FlureeDB is the first solution that brings blockchain into the data tier with a fully-functioning and modern database. By leveraging blockchain as a core element in its underlying architecture, FlureeDB stands as a unique and needed infrastructure solution for building out enterprise-grade blockchain applications at scale.

We are excited to see what the world builds with FlureeDB’s production release. Keep your eye out for Fluree Disruptors, our upcoming spotlight blog series highlighting some of our favorite early adopters (including Benekiva, Docsmore, SSBI, One Donation, Alpha Software, and more).

Here’s how you can use FlureeDB today:

1. As a better database for enterprise applications

FlureeDB is an entirely new database that satisfies a host of modern application requirements, with features such as ACID compliance, RESTful API, instant point-in-time query, graph query for rich analytical results, and more. Here’s what makes FlureeDB a competitive upgrade from your standard database:

Immutable

Immutable: FlureeDB builds each database transaction into a block of time, creating a central blockchain that is cryptographically linked to the prior transaction, retaining all activity while making it highly tamper resistant. FlureeDB essentially leaves behind a fully historic audit trail that can be trusted to the highest degree.

Rich Permission Model

Permission Model: FlureeDB allows for an unprecedented level of control over data. Databases today require a permission layer be built at the API layer of an application; FlureeDB puts permissions right in the source. Granular and complex rules can be written to govern read and write access

Graph Style Query

Graph: Harness the analytical power of graph: FlureeDB allows for powerful graph queries and analytical aggregations capable of powering entire applications with single-digit millisecond query performance and real-time updates.

2. As a better blockchain solution

FlureeDB can run internally as a highly-performant graph database to power standard business applications, but can also be distributed and decentralized — in its entirety — across an established network of participants known as a “permissioned blockchain.”

Flexible

Flexible: Evolve your blockchain: Most blockchains are purpose-built and inflexible. Because FlureeDB’s schema is stored as variable data itself, it can evolve over time as data requirements change.

Data-Centric

Data-Centric: Stop pushing metadata to legacy systems: the cost of placing large amounts of data on-chain has established a universal roadblock to many enterprise projects, forcing them to store related met-data elsewhere. FlureeDB naturally handles enterprise data requirements, allowing your entire database to live on-chain, for a truly decentralized database

Familiar

Familiar: Blockchain doesn’t have to come with a learning curve: As a database with a schema and wide support of full-stack programming language, FlureeDB is a familiar tool to developers and software architects.
