#HumpDayQandA: Live Help for Flutter 00:00–23:59 UTC every single Wednesday!
Come to the Dart Side, we have cookies… and people who can help you with Firebase, Redux or InheritedWidget.
When I first started learning Flutter, I felt as if trying to do it alone was holding me back, as if there had to be another way. So, I went out and made a Zoom account (it’s a web conferencing software). After a while a few of us started hanging out there every day, while we were working on other things, and pretty soon it started to feel like an office; one where I could work in peace but, at the same time, I could ask the person next to me for a hand if I needed to.
“I looked up one day and realized I was learning 4x faster once I started hanging out in Zoom. I was getting answers to my questions in seconds, and I was getting a lot more than just answers; I was getting complete explanations” — Scott Stoll
“The Worldwide Remote Flutter Freelancer’s Office” is alive and well, and we’ve always got cubes in the farm if you want one of your own. But every Wednesday we also host a 24 hour live help session that is open to everyone, everywhere, via Zoom.
The idea is that everyone should be able to talk to a human being when they need help with a problem, or even just if they’re trying to learn. After all, you want to talk to a human being when you call a company for support; why would you accept less than talking to a human being when you need support for Flutter and Dart?
Also, we don’t believe that people should have to speak English all the time in order to get the help they need. That’s why we’ve made an effort to recruit people who can cover a wide array of languages including Spanish, French, Arabic, German, Japanese and not one but two of the languages spoken in India.
Help is a lot more helpful when you can understand it, don’t you think?
But wait, there’s more! We’re not actually limited to Wednesdays; you can come on in any time you want or need. It’s just that people make an extra effort to be sure they’re in Zoom on Wednesdays so that you don’t arrive to an empty Zoom. But if you do happen to come in an we’re not that at that specific moment, don’t just leave! Grab a drink, get comfortable and do your thing while leaving Zoom going in the background. Others will wander in and out all throughout the day you have to be there to catch them.
Hey, someone has to be the first one there, it may as well be you.
Note: Speaking of first times, the first time you join Zoom you’ll probably have to tell it which sound device you want to use. Until you do, you won’t be able to speak and sometimes you can’t even hear until you get past that dialog box. Don’t just get frustrated and leave because the sound isn’t working right away.
