6 Reasons we chose to build on Polygon

Polygon is the leading decentralized Ethereum Layer 2 scaling platform

With the rising popularity of dApps and NFT’s this past year, we saw the price of transactions on the Ethereum mainnet skyrocket. As a result, Layer 2 blockchains have become an increasingly crowded space. So why did we choose to build on Polygon? Below are 5 reasons:

1. Low Fees

“I don’t mind paying more,” said absolutely no one ever. If you regularly transact on Ethereum, then you know all too well that the gas fees have gotten out of hand over the past year. We built a loyalty rewards program that puts the power back into travelers’ hands, but you shouldn’t have to pass your savings to high gas fees. Polygon users pay a fraction of what it costs to transact on Ethereum.

2. Technical Support

When it comes to developer support, Polygon leads the pack. Being a part of the thriving ecosystem gives our own developers access to in-house Polygon developers for advice on best practices and troubleshooting. With this level of support, we can move forward knowing we are in good hands and able to provide FLY holders with a secure and seamless experience.

3. Marketing

Polygon has grown exponentially since its launch in 2017. It is now the largest Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum, and with that comes a vast ecosystem and community. There are over 7000 dApps on the network; some notables include Aave, SushiSwap, OpenSea, and Decentraland. Polygon provides its official media partner channels, AMAs, Twitter Spaces, and more to help expand our reach and share FlyCoin’s message with millions of community members.

4. Speed & Scalability

As FLY grows in popularity, we’ll need the ability to scale quickly with fast settlements. Polygon Proof of Stake (PoS) utilizes side-chains for transaction processing, allowing for speeds that are multiple orders of magnitude faster than Ethereum. On top of that, Polygon PoS features full EVM compatibility, as well as compatibility with major ERC standards. There are a host of other scalability solutions that Polygon is working on today, and we encourage you to take a deeper dive on their website to learn more.

5. Security

We know how important security is for our users, which is why it was top of mind when building FlyCoin. Polygon’s ability to offer exponentially faster transactions and scalability without compromising on security is what separates them from alternative solutions. This is possible through Polygon’s scalable PoS architecture, which runs complementary to Ethereum’s decentralized security architecture.

6. Eco-Friendly Blockchain

With Polygon’s PoS consensus mechanism, it consumes orders of magnitude less energy than PoW blockchains. This was a very important feature the FlyCoin team kept in mind when evaluating chains to build on.
