Following a 75–59 win over Richmond on Thursday night, Dayton enters the Arch Baron Cup battle looking to stay atop the A-10. Saint Louis, on the other hand, is trying to climb out of last place in the conference. The Billikens lost a tough one to St. Bonaventure their last time out.

With Dayton coming in at 14–4 overall and St. Louis sitting at 5–13, Sunday afternoon’s matchup looks extremely lopsided on paper. In a huge rivalry game game, though, nothing can be taken for granted.

The Opposition

Currently sitting eight games under .500, it is easy to see the 2016–17 season has been brutal for the Billikens. Despite the struggles, however, St. Louis did show a flash of better basketball last Saturday. Playing a difficult road game at George Mason, the Billikens fought hard to pull off an upset. St. Louis held the Patriots to just 18 first half points en route to a 63–56 win. Jaire Grayer came off the bench to lead the Billikens with 16 points in the win over George Mason. If St. Louis wants to have any shot of pulling off another upset, the Billikens will need strong bench performances at Dayton.

Injury Report

After sitting out Thursday’s game against Richmond with a foot injury, Kyle Davis remains day to day. Facing a struggling St. Louis team, it certainly looks like the senior guard will not play Sunday. After the win on Thursday Archie Miller said that “barring a miracle” Davis would not return until possibly next week.

Key to a Flyer Win

In order for Dayton to take home its sixth straight Arch Baron Cup, the Flyers simply need to hit open shots. St. Louis’ extreme struggle to score has plagued the Billikens all year. In fact, St. Louis is averaging less than 61 points per game this season. Now going up against the A-10’s toughest defense, things will not get any easier for the Billikens anytime soon. If the Flyers continue to play dominant defense and hit open shots, the Cup will stay in Dayton.
