In late January, anyone who clicked on the “More” button in their Twitter account was surprised to find a shiny new addition to the sidebar navigation: Newsletters. Twitter quietly rolled out its acquisition of Revue, a free publishing service that makes it easy for anyone to curate and publish editorial-style newsletters.

Twitter claims that the new acquisition will allow Twitter to be a “Better Home for Writers,” and Revue’s homepage boasts that the new partnership allows writers and content creators to share their content at a scale like never before — and be paid for it. Twitter has always been a platform applauded for bringing brands into important conversations (though tweeting can quickly devolve into screeching).

What it Means for Brands

The Revue acquisition is also beneficial to service brands relying on organic blog and social content to grow brand awareness. Twitter’s partnership with Revue offers smaller servicing brands a low-cost way to publish more content and organically grow their audience. For example, a financial services brand that relies on blog content to educate their customers could utilize a Revue newsletter to connect with a Twitter audience.

Revue acts as a curation tool. Users can drag and drop elements from blog articles, whitepaper content, and social media posts into an easily formatted template. These users can then publish to their wider audience. You can even upload contact lists into the platform for a wider reach.

With this acquisition, it’ll be easier than ever for brands to share more content with their audience. And it’s a better experience for readers because they’ll never need to leave Twitter to view the content.

Here are some ways you can leverage this new partnership for your brand:

  • Curate industry articles, podcasts, and video content
  • Share full blog post articles or excerpts to increase visibility within the Twitter platform
  • Share upcoming company events, sales, and special offers
  • Summarize important social media posts and updates from the week

Revue integrates with several platforms to allow easy curation from many different sites. Some popular integrations include:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Medium
  • Pocket
  • Instapaper
  • RSS Feeds
  • Product Hunt
  • Mailchimp

Revue also has an option for anyone looking to monetize their newsletter. Revue is lowering its existing paid newsletter fee to 5%, which is a reasonable price considering the additional scale and options Twitter offers publishers. However, not a lot of details have been released on this feature yet.

Both companies have been soft to roll out additional features and it’s unknown what else might be coming from this partnership. For now, Twitter and Revue are keeping things on the down-low, but we’ll be watching closely for any upcoming features or updates that may be beneficial for brands.
