Last Friday, we had a talk with BNB Chain, NodeReal and Blocklike about the future of Web3 Entertainment. Eon(FNCY), Lee Zhu(BNB Chain) and Freddie(NodeReal) threw in lots of insights about the glowing future of web3 entertainment. Feel free to watch the 1-hour talk here. But for those who want a takeaway of some of what FNCY said, here is for you.

1. Introduce yourself and the project briefly

Hi everyone, my name is Eon and I’m a part of the blockchain business development team here at FNCY.

We here at FNCY seek to bring “blockchain down to everyday life.” We are pursuing a Web3 ecosystem that is easy and convenient to use, even for users who have little to no knowledge on blockchain.

FNCY is not only the name of our own mainnet, but it’s also the name of the blockchain platform we are building, as well as the name of our native coin, $FNCY.

The content that is and will be available on the FNCY platform includes not only games, but also webtoons, web novels, NFTs, commerce, socials, metaverse, and so much more. Not only this, but we are also collaborating with numerous Web2 and Web 3 brands and projects, bringing about even further content that’ll bridge the gap between today and tomorrow. And all of this will be seamlessly connected with the universal denominator of FNCY.

2. Tell us what your ideal Web3 entertainment scenario where Web3 is adopted like the internet nowadays is.

That’s a great point that was brought up. I think looking at the inception of Web2 is a perfect comparison in hypothesizing what’s to come with Web3. If we look at the start of Web2 and what it ultimately brought that revolutionized the world was “user generated content.”

With Web1.0, Web1 was a “minority” making content for “everyone” concept: A small, handful group made content, or webpages, for the masses. The Web was used for information consumption in a more one-way direction.

With Web2.0, it evolved into “everyone” making content for “everyone.” It quite literally connected all parts of the world, where essentially anyone from anywhere could communicate with anyone from anywhere. Social media and social elements played a crucial role in pushing the Web2 drive, and everything from games, blogging, image and video sharing, communication, all had an added layer of social communication, and community became key. Sharing became vital, and the one-way street of the Web grew into a two-way street.

So, if Web1.0 was a one-way information consumption, and Web2.0 was a two-way social UGC, what is Web3.0? I believe Web3 can be characterized as a highway for (1) ownership, (2) immersive social interactivity, and (3) value capitalization.

  1. Users will be able to own their content and assets, and this will be verified on the blockchain for secure and transparent record. This can be in the form of NFTs.
  2. And going beyond just the social interactions that users had with Web2, I believe with Web3.0, this’ll be further enhanced with immersive and connectivity. And this will be in the form of the metaverse.
  3. Finally, what I mean by value capitalization is users will be able to capitalize on the value-added content they’ve created. We saw a glimpse of this with monetization on platforms such as YouTube on Web2, as well as P2E and all the various forms of X2E with Web3, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

As for an example, I think we can take Netflix as an example. We can see Netflix’s beginning stage as a “send-in mail DVD service” as Web1.0. And the evolution into the “streaming service” we all know and love today can be conveyed as Web2.0. And with Web3.0? Imagine users being able to own the content they consume, watching it on the metaverse with their friends, while also profiting from the time spent on the platform.

But for that to be possible, the hurdles faced today need to be near-completely resolved.

3. What are the standards Web3 platforms that carry out entertainment must have? In other words, what kind of Web3 products focusing on entertainment do users and the market need?

User experience must be seamless and easy to use. A person who knows little to nothing about blockchain should be able to onboard and consume in an instance.

However, that’s not to say that there isn’t going to be a learning curve. If you gave a person from the 90s a smartphone to consume YouTube videos, they’re not going to know how to utilize it from the get go. Education and guidance is needed, and it’s our responsibility as project developers to not only create the services, but also make the onboarding process as smooth as possible.

For us at FNCY, we strive to provide this guidance by creating easy-to-follow guides on our channels, such as Medium. We try to make it as easy as possible to understand, using common language that’s universally understood (avoiding technical jargon), and be as informative as possible to educate our users.

In the future, we’ll further develop ways to educate our users, diversifying the forms of guidance provided.

4. What are the key roles you think are important in order to reach the ideal Web3 Entertainment and in which role your project is playing?

The FNCY platform aims to provide a variety of entertainment content with no borders between Web2 and Web3. What we mean by this is we seek to build an environment and ecosystem where it’s easy enough so that it does not impose blockchain-related knowledge on ordinary users.

If we look at mass adoption for blockchain entertainment, what are the hurdles faced when ordinary users with no background on blockchain try to consume entertainment content in Web3? Wallet creation, token trading, inter-chain operability, swapping/bridging, etc. We seek to tackle each in the most simplest way possible in the user POV.

When a user downloads the FNCY app or PC launcher and creates an account, a wallet is automatically generated — No additional process to create a wallet that can bring about unnecessary frustration.

In addition, the act of acquiring and consuming tokens as rewards while enjoying various contents is designed to be as convenient as receiving rewards and points on Web2 platforms.

Users will also be able to transact/trade these rewards that they earn straight from the FNCY platform. Ultimately, it’ll be a sound cycle of consuming, earning, and spending, all without having to leave the platform.

Through this, the goal is to become a blockchain platform that is close to daily life, using digital assets acquired through user activities without online and offline boundaries.

5. Tell us your project’s roadmap in the new year.

Firstly, we are currently discussing with numerous brands at the moment. Not only our own, original games, but also 3rd party games will be onboarded to FNCY.

Moreover, we are working to complete a membership and rewards-based system as well. Also a user-created web-novel and web-comics blockchain platform, music metaverse where songwriters and users can interact, social & e-commerce and collaborative NFT projects with various IP are also in the works.

We’re also working with NodeReal to continuously update and upgrade our FNCY Mainnet as well.

And finally, one of our biggest projects that’s currently in development is our very own metaverse content, called <GrandCross: Metaworld>. The teaser trailer for this metaverse has been revealed, so be sure to check it out on YouTube.
