Plants come with many benefits. They can be the last finishing touch to a space, improve air quality, reduce stress, improve mental health and much more! We have all been spending more time in our homes and many are becoming stir crazy. Nurturing a new houseplant could be what we all need. Here is a list of 5 houseplants that you can care for in your Fort Collins home.

Succulent

Brynne Adams

Succulents have become so popular and trendy over the last few years. The reason for that is because they are super easy to take care of. Succulents love dry and sunny areas… sounds like a perfect fit for Fort Collins! They are very low maintenance only needing to be watered about every couple of weeks. Local succulent owner, Brynne Adams says she loves these because, “they come in varieties of shapes, colors and sizes.” Succulents can also be easily propagated to create more. You can read about the whole propagation process on Succulents and Sunshine.

Cactus

Adrianna Clavo

My cactus is the longest lived plant I have owned. There are many types of cactus with different needs; desert cacti are the ones to grow here. Cacti love sunlight (preferably West or South facing) and are hard to under-water. I will typically water mine every 3 weeks. Sometimes they can even go longer without watering. You can find more information about watering your cactus at Cactusway.

Snake Plant

Nika Akin

Snake plants are an extremely forgiving plant and will strive almost anywhere. Their sunlight needs are just about anything, they can survive in full and low sun. Humidity level is not much of a problem either, they can grow in steamy bathrooms if you wanted or out in the dry air. Ideally they should be watered between 2–8 weeks leaving lots of time in case they are forgotten about. Snake plants are true fighters. They are tough plants and very easy to care for. You can buy your snake plant at one of the multiple plant shops here such as the Fort Collins Nursery.

Aloe Vera

Cintia Siqueira

Aloe Vera is another plant that enjoys dry air and lots of sunlight. Just like the desert cactus, they need water about every 3 weeks. Aloe Vera can not only complete a room but they also have many other benefits through the leaves. Many people know aloe vera can help with sunburns but there are more benefits that you can learn about on Healthline.

Lucky Bamboo

Toni Cuenca

Last but not least is the lucky bamboo. Lucky bamboo is another plant that is hard to kill and little effort goes into keeping them alive. An appealing feature about these plants is that they can be grown in water. This means you won’t have to worry about forgetting to water them. These can also be arranged in gorgeous ways. I like to keep mine in the bathroom in indirect sunlight. The Spruce provides a more in depth guide for the lucky bamboo.
