All dog owners want their furry friends to feel special. Yet, amid many Fort Collins residents back to work and school after following COVID-19 restrictions, “man’s best friend” is left feeling unacknowledged.

Fortunately, Fort Collins is one of the most dog-friendly cities!

As a fellow dog owner and lover, here is an outline of the best things to do in Fort Collins with your dog to help them have the perfect day.

1. Sunrise Hike to Arthur’s Rock

Waking up early for a hike is not an easy task. But watching the beautiful, rising sun over the city of Fort Collins with a dog companion by your side makes it all worthwhile.

Arthur’s Rock Trail is a moderately challenging, 1.7-mile trail near Bellvue, Colorado. This dog-on-leash trail features wildflowers and its summit overlooks Horsetooth Reservoir and the Front Range from an elevation of 6,780 feet.

This hike provides excellent hiking for both experienced and beginner human hikers. As you hike, your dog will be wagging their tail over all the smells of fresh flowers and trees along the way.

2. Relax At Mugs Coffee Lounge

After an early morning hike, your dog will want to hydrate with a fresh cup of water. You can join alongside your pooch and reinvigorate with a fresh cup of coffee at Mug’s Coffee Lounge.

Mugs is a locally-owned coffee shop with multiple locations around Fort Collins. While each site provides excellent service, the Downtown Fort Collins location is superior in accommodating canine friends.

Located on the crossroads of College Ave. and Olive St., Mugs provides plenty of outdoor seating where you and your dog can relax and revive after your hike from Arthur’s Rock.

Along with their wide range of delious beverages, they also offer made-in-house breakfast burritos, baked goods, sandwiches and other breakfast and lunch essentials.

Your dog will be begging for the chance to try your mouthwatering breakfast and beverage.

3. Pamper At The Dog Pawlour

Hiking to Arthur’s Rock and sitting on Mug’s cement might leave your dog a little dirty. A day at the spa is well deserved.

The Dog Pawlour is a family and locally-owned dog grooming business. They not only offer professional grooming, but they sell their own brand’s Dog Pawlour goods, provide doggie daycare and self-wash dog stations.

Their self-wash grooming stations are easy to use for those of us dog owners who are comfortable cleaning our pooch. But The Dog Pawlor grooming staff will personally provide nail trimming, ear cleaning and teeth brushing a la carte for self-wash customers.

The Dog Pawlour is one of the top-rated dog grooming businesses in Fort Collins. Your dog will not only love feeling clean and fresh, but you can feel good supporting a small, local business.

4. Grab A Treat From Bones De Jour

After your dog is looking snazzy with their fresh wash, they deserve a yummy snack. Bones De Jour is the perfect place to go to get just the thing.

Bones De Jour is owned by Sue Carroll, who is also the chef and “biscuitologist.” Carroll makes homemade dog treats for Fort Collins dogs.

She uses high-quality, organic, and locally farmed ingredients in their freshly baked dog treat. In addition, at Bones De Jour, there is a wide selection of individual dog treats, grain-free dog treats, edible gift baskets and even cakes and celebration cookies.

Feeding your dog after a long day of fun is essential for keeping your canine’s tail wagging. You can be confident that Bones De Jour’s treats will not only leave your dog happy but healthy too.

5. Night Out At The Exchange

The adventure of the day does not end at night for your dog. Instead, it is a night out on the town!

The Exchange is an open plaza area in Old Town Fort Collins where many tasty restaurants, bars and an iconic ice cream shop surround the area.

Your dog is welcome on leash and will have a blast sitting near you by the fire pits or cheering you on while you play corn hole with your human friends.

There are also likely to be other friendly dogs hoping to greet a new four-legged companion. Your dog will love people watching the people of Fort Collins and sniffing the behinds of the other puppies.

The Exchange is the best place to conclude a wonderful day for your dog in Fort Collins.
