We’re excited to be joining Medium today. On Medium, we’ll share ideas and stories from State Department leaders about how the United States is engaged globally on a range of foreign policy issues — from addressing climate change to empowering women and girls.

Our goal is to use this account to empower you to engage with the people who represent America to the world. Today, citizens have more tools than ever before to engage with their governments on the issues they care about most. Our diplomats and policy experts are accessible on social networks like never before, and they want to hear your thoughts and ideas. So, today we invite you to join us in an ongoing conversation about how we are working to find solutions to shared challenges and to make real change in the lives of millions around the world.

We’ve already published our first post. Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Doug Frantz, who just returned from the official UN World Press Freedom Day commemoration, shared his thoughts on the importance of freedom of expression.

Over the next couple of months, we look forward to sharing similar posts. You can expect to see entries on actions we’re taking to protect the ocean, on U.S. engagement with the United Nations over the past 70 years, and more. On some occasions, we will also share with you the Secretary’s remarks and entries from our official blog, DipNote.

As we expand our presence on Medium, we want to start a dialogue with you on the issues you care about most. So, leave us notes, share, recommend, and write responses to our stories. If there is something specific you like, tell us. If there is something you don’t like, tell us. If there are topics you want us to address, tell us. We will aim to publish on those topics in the future, as we truly want this to be place that connects engaged citizens with the Department’s experts who are on the frontlines of diplomacy.

We look forward to hearing from you!
